First Day of School - August 2017

 I love theses kids!

 Lily- Kindergarten Ms. Taylor
Arabella 3rd Grade Ms. Carnes
 Jon 6th Grade
 Joseph 8th Grade
Lily had practiced so much to ride her bike to school. We had not thought to have her practice with her backpack on. She did fantastic though!

My boys are getting way too big. I sort of wish they were just making mud pies and digging big holes in the sand box again.  (Every once in a while they will still do that as they play with their sisters.)

The beginning of 2 very long weeks-August 2017

I took this picture moments before Peter headed out with the Texas Task Force 2 as a Structural Specialist to "chase" Hurricane Harvey. It was an interesting experience to say the least.  He was gone for almost 2 weeks exactly. Harvey was horrible destructive but not because of the high winds but because it slowed way down and dumped feet of rain over Houston and Beaumont, Texas. There was so much flooding! Houses were almost completely under water. I am grateful he was able to go and help and meet new people and learn new things.

The above picture shows 2 weeks of growth on his face. It was a pretty decent beard but we did not keep it around any longer.

End of Summer Fun - August 2017

I made the kids do a few things right at the end of summer because I felt we needed to get the last bit of fun out of summer and spend a little less time with screens or even indoors.
In Texas in the summer, it is super hot and humid so if you are going to go outside it needs to be to a place you can cool off.
One day we went to a splash park!
On probably the hottest day of the summer, I drug the kids to the Dallas Arboretum.
It was soooo humid and hot to boot.
Samantha played in the first bit of water but I could not convince the big kids to join her.  All they wanted to do was sit.  They did not even eat all of their lunch because it was too hot.

At the second water feature, Lily joined Samantha and they played and cooled off.

The rest of us were sweating up a storm and did not complain when they were done and ready to move on.

It was not the longest trip to the Arboretum but we enjoyed ourselves.

On one of the last days of summer, the kids all had a dentist appointment.  We left early and stopped at this park that is on the way. The kids played and we enjoyed the small botanical gardens that are next to the park. We had a race on this crazy spiderweb portion and it was fun to watch the boys.
The dentist was not so good. 4 of the 5 kids had cavities.  2 were able to be fixed that day but Lily and Samantha had to go back in on different days so they could be sedated. They were champs and did really well- especially Samantha who had not ever had this done before.

Eclipse- August 2017

The whole country was in an eclipse craze and when the time came we joined in.
I had read that you could use the selfie function on your phone and view the eclipse that way.
We gave it a shot and it worked really well.

We each needed a shot with the eclipse.
The odd shaped shadows were pretty cool too.

Lily's 6th Birthday - August 2017

I have had some unusual computer issues and a rough time managing my time and so I am so sad it has taken me 3 months to get this posted.

Lily had a great day on her 6th birthday!
Donuts for breakfast- of course.

Gifts with all kinds of excitement and happy faces!

And then Lily asked to go to the beach for her birthday.  I am so glad that there is a beach park no too far from our house.  It was such a beautiful day and we had the best time!
Peter turned me into a mermaid!

There was so much digging and digging and digging with a little bit of splashing and swimming.
Celebrating this little girl who brings so much joy, love, laughter, spunk, and sass to our family was the perfect way to spend a day. Happy 6th birthday my sweet Lily!

Zoo - August 2017

We made a trip to the zoo and lucked out and saw the lion cub. Cute!

Arabella was chosen to help the keeper feed one of the animals during a show.
She was such a good helper. It was a nice day at the zoo.
